I Hang With Famous People

Yeah that’s right.  I chill with the upper echelon.  Party with the beautiful people.

Kidding.

Ever since moving to Houston I’ve been on the look out for famous people.  Famous people live here.  OK, maybe not in my area, but in the same city.  You will be the first to know if I spot any celebs.  It probably will never happen as I’m sure that to spot the beautiful people you have to go where the beautiful people go.  I don’t really do fancy restaurants and clubs.  Or spas.  Or Ferrari dealerships.

Anyway…I did get my picture taken with a famous person a couple of years ago.  At one of our college hockey games I won 4 tickets to the hockey playoffs that were going to be held in Detroit.  I also won a two night stay at a fancy schmancy hotel.  T, T’s Dad, Big A, and myself went.  And I honestly don’t even remember how well our team did.  All I know is that we were able to have a fun weekend, watch some college hockey, and stay in a hotel.

Speaking of that hotel…that just reminded me of two separate incidents that occurred on that little mini-vaca.  Those two things involve a pillow and a skanky restroom.  We will come back to that on a rainy day.

While we were staying at the hotel for the hockey championships, there was also a WWE event (wrestling) happening at a venue next to the hotel.  We got wind that the wrestlers were staying in the hotel.  I’m sure it was teeming with famous people but we only spotted one.  WWE hottie, John Cena!!!

Truthfully, I’m not a fan of WWE.  It’s fake and ridiculous and very soap opera.  T has a couple cousins who fanatical about WWE.  They know everyones names and their signature moves and everything else.  Before meeting John Cena I don’t really remember if I even knew who he was.  I think I had heard about him from T’s cousins.

We stayed up really really late and hung out in the lobby of the hotel to see if we could spot any celebs.  And in walked John Cena and a couple other dudes who looked like body guards or something.  But why does a pro wrestler need a body guard.  Anyway…after some poking and prodding from the boys who were too chicken to go say hi-I went and said HI!  I was nervous, but really wanted a picture.  How often do you spot someone famous?

This is how it went down:

“Hi.  Are you John Cena?”  That’s an idiotic question.

“That’s what they call me.”  Wow-now I feel really dumb.

“Would it be OK if I got a picture with you?”  *Handing camera to posse dude.

“Sure”  *Posse dude takes cheesy picture.

“OK, thanks!  So nice to meet you.”  *He probably thought that I was a big fan.  Not really.  He was just a super babe.

Not really as exciting as I had been hoping for my first celebrity encounter.

He was kind of a jerk, but I’m sure he was tired from doing a wrestling show earlier that evening.  And banging hoes and shooting roids.  And writing rap songs.  Yeah, he’s a wannabe rapper too.  He was also in a really cheesy movie.

Suddenly after our encounter something changed.  I became the world’s biggest John Cena fan.  Chiseled muscles will do that to a girl.

OMG!

OMG!

Yes ladies.  He’s a yummy guy.  Please disregard my torn sweatshirt and lack of any personal care.  It was late OK!
So…I want to know.  Have you met any famous people????
My other close encounter with the celeb kind was with Billy Ray Cyrus.
But that’s another story for another day.

  1. I saw Dan Quayle when I was a kid. He gave a speech at the base my dad was stationed at in Germany. He is Bush Sr.’s vice president just in case no one remembered. I also saw Pat Sajak. Wheel of Fortune extraordinaire. I was at Hillsdale College for a perspective student thing and he, too, was there to give a speech. He was quickly swarmed with people and I didn’t get a chance to actually meet him. And then this past June, literally just days after winning the Stanley Cup, I was at Cabela’s near my house and where I now work when Mike Babcock walked in with his son. I walked right by him starring him down because I knew exactly who he was, but I figured not to bother him. Then I thought, “when am I going to see him ever again?” So I grew a pair and went over to him and met him. No picture though. :-(

  2. keith urban! Talk about yummy. And nice. And right before he went to rehab, so I’m sure he was also drunk. I don’t know how to put the picture here or a link to it either. (and I still haven’t thought of a clever nickname)

  3. I can often find people in a public setting who look a lot like a famous person…but the actual famous persons can be sitting at the next table in a restaurant and I will have no clue who they are.

I guess I am not destined to ever have my picture taken with anyone famous. Oh well, I never look good in pictures anyway.

    Cheers!

  4. I have actually gotten to meet several famous people. I guess the industary my Dad was in while I was growing up lead me to them. Pat and Vannah were 2 of them but the best part was I got to spin the wheel! I was in the convention business for a while so I got to meet tons of NFL and other famous people there too. Bret Farve would be the best one from there I think. The husband and I also just went to Vegas for a UFC event and got to see (and TOUCH) yummy bodies there too! I honestly am not bragging, I personally hated it growing up but thinking back I really should have enjoyed every ounce of it.

    Have a wonderful weekend J!

  5. Oh and I am not a WWE or what ever it is now…fan, but man oh man Cena is fabulous! I would have been all over him if I were you! OK not really only in my wild dreams LOL

  6. I always think I haven’t met any famous people, but I’m sure I have. Like this one time, I was on the Spiderman set and met Kirsten Dunst and took a picture with her in her bathrobe. I also went to a Hollywood rap party for Just Married and met Ashton Kutcher because my friend was his driver for the movie. The same friend worked on Spiderman and got me on that set, hence the Kirsten meetup.

  7. Would you consider Bonnie Blair a famous person?
Several gold medals in speed skating.
I met her before she became famous and afterward. She showed up at one of our softball team game because she knew a player on our team.
    Yes that would include talking.
What you see is what you get.
    She super nice.

    John

  8. It’s crazy that you just blogged about famous people because we had a few come to SVSU’s homecoming tailgate this morning. Rachel Leigh Cook (She’s All That) and Adam Brody (Seth from the O.C.) came to promote voting in the election. I’ve always had a crush on Adam just because of his character on the O.C. so I took a picture with him!

  9. One of my students would DIE to be in your shoes. She is obsessed with John Cena… she has his photos all over her room and insists she is going to marry him. I guess I can see the attraction, even if he is a stupid wrestler.

As I read this entry I can’t help but reflect upon my own personal experience meeting MC Hammer at the movie theater in Canada. I think I even brought the photo to show in one of our classes with Sally. It’s true…we watched Jarhead together. He sat right in front of us. I even got to touch his hand. John Cena can’t touch that :-)
