I am sitting here suffering. I’m in more pain then I’ve EVER been in. Well, maybe not ever-but darn close. I had a little accident tonight.
*Note: I write my posts the night before I post them. I usually post in the morning and I don’t want you thinking that I actually get up early enough to write a post, edit it and publish it to my blog. Nope-I write them the night before.
Tonight I decided to take Hurley over to the lovely little wooded area that we have next to our apartment complex. Here’s a picture to give you an idea of where the carnage occurred.
This area has a name, but it escapes me at the moment. I’ve heard that the entire spot where our apartment complex is used to be an orchard or something and this little area is all that’s left. As you can see there is a gate that leads into the wooded area. There’s some benches in there. It’s a really nice spot and I’m glad that I have access to it. This spot comes in handy when I feel like Hurley needs a little more exercise. Since the little bugger is small enough to fit through the bars in the fence I have to keep him on his leash. To give him a bit more freedom I tie a long line to the end of his leash. Here it is all wrapped up:
It’s the type of cording that you might use for tent tie downs or something like that.
Hurley loves getting the chance to run and frolic like a real dog deserves. I usually take a toy with us so he can play fetch (or try-he doesn’t really get ‘fetch’ yet). I basically try to run all the excess energy from his furry dog body. It’s close to impossible to do that but I try.
Let’s visualize for a moment shall we? I have a crazy dog hooked up to a very long line. He was really excited to chase the rope toy that I had brought along. I threw the rope as hard as I could. He took off like a bullet and the rope was strewn behind me. As Hurley ran towards the toy the rope suddenly began rubbing the back of my legs. I didn’t think that I was anywhere near the rope, but I was. Can you visualize what’s happening here? It’s a little hard to describe in words.
I felt the burn immediately as the rope was sliding behind my legs. I started jumping like a crazy person in an attempt to let the rope get out from behind my legs. No such luck. It felt like Hurley ran 8 miles to get to the toy.
Here’s a look at the damage:
Please excuse the poor photography. T was “busy” playing a video game and didn’t want to take 10 seconds to attempt to take a decent picture for me. Of all places to get a rope burn. It hurts like you wouldn’t believe.
How about a close up?
It’s like a burn/welt. And I think that there’s blood too. It hurts to even bend my knees. I may need physical therapy to recover from this. It sucks and I’m going to whine about it until I’m fully healed.
The only good thing that came from this was that I found a nice bungie cord on the way back home. You never know when this will come in handy.
And for those of you who may be thinking that I’m crazy for comparing this injury to child birth-what ev! You’ve never had a rope burn that almost cut your legs in two. You have NO idea!
Happy Friday everyone! Here’s a video of Hurley, the culprit of my pain.

I did something similar to that when I went to Cedar Point a few years ago with Amanda. We went on the Rip Cord and when we were almost done I got a cord, very much like the one that you were injured by, wrapped around my foot and it ripped the skin off my foot. I had to walk around with flip flops rubbing on my cuts ALL DAY. I feel your pain… seriously.
